Chamber sponsors local Food Drive

In response the the pause in The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) monthly benefits, the Chamber of Commerce held a food drive for the Good Samaritan Center and Meet the Need in November. Attendees of the luncheon brought donations, which will be taken at the Chamber office through Friday, Nov. 21.

Speaking on behalf of the Good Samaritan Center was director Sarah Noblet. “You have really stepped up for your community,” Sarah said. She reported that over 100 turkeys had been donated and the Center was able to put together “fix-it” boxes for families this Thanksgiving. “Also, remember the seniors at this time, check on them and make sure they are taken care of.” said Sarah. “We will be having a Senior Fair this Friday providing services and serving food.”

Valerie Hoeffecker, director and caseworker of Meet the Need, expressed her thanks. “I love Excelsior with all my heart,” Valerie said. “We had so many phone calls from people panicking. No one needs to panic.” She thanked the community and churches for showing up with donations. Meet the Need’s next event will be a Christmas Store with shopping for parents to choose gifts for their children. “If you want to donate, we can use batteries. We can use wrapping paper,” Valerie said.

  • Meet the Need is located at 1302 N. Jesse James Rd.
  • The Good Samaritan Center is located at 108 S. Thompson Avenue in downtown Excelsior Springs.
